HE CAME FOR ME.

My heart is both singing in joy and breaking at what I’ve done to him.

I broke him. I hurt him so badly, I saw it in that instant when I confessed that Liam had been contacting me, taunting me. Stalking me. I could try for the rest of my life and never make this up to him. I hate myself for the pain I saw in him. Pain I can still see hiding behind his hot eyes and easy smiles.

He’ll pretend that he’s okay, I know him. But now that I’ve seen that well of pain inside him, how can I ever make it right?

We pull up outside my apartment and I promise myself that I will. I’ll find a way to ease that hurt. I don’t know how yet, but I will never stop trying.

Now that we’re here, I’m nervous. My body is still thrumming from our encounter back at The Ale House. At least he knows now that I am a virgin. Hopefully I won’t suck at this.

I unlock the door—all three locks—and once we’re inside, I close the door and re-lock all three plus the deadbolts I attached at both the top and bottom of the door. Angus is off his leash and jumping up on my threadbare sofa, stuffing his face under a throw pillow and curling up. He’s apparently been clued in by some kind of dog magic that we’re about to have sex.

And he’s disgusted by it. Judging us, by the looks of him. He’s like a teenager who walked in on his parents having sex. I’ve done that, by the way and just, ew. You don’t recover.

Poor Angus.

Adam huffs at his dog. “This is why he’s a Malfoy.”

I stand there in my living room watching Angus because it’s easier to watch the dog than the man who’s looking at me like I’m edible. Angus huffs at us again and I grin. “Well,” I say, trying to stand still and not fidget or laugh uncontrollably. “I feel like we’ve been judged.”

Adam comes up behind me, slipping his arms around me, hugging me against his chest. He kisses the back of my neck and I shiver. “He’ll get over it,” he whispers in my ear. I can feel the smile curving on his lips against my skin. His hands go to the buttons of his jacket I’m still wearing.

I relax back into his body, my breath hitching in my chest at his nearness, his touch and his mouth—just him. I am on fire just from being close to him right now. “Or we’ve scarred him for life,” I joke back at Adam, my voice breathless.

He hums as he tugs his jacket off my shoulders, leaving me bare from the waist up. His mouth is hot on the back of my neck, moving slow and wet over my shoulders. His hands rest on my bare waist a moment and I shudder, swallowing hard, moaning when his hands slide up over my stomach and then down to my hips.
